To get the job, a job seeker has to stand out from the rest. He should be able to sustain the interest of the hiring manager to the point that the latter will realize that his qualifications are what the company truly needs. To speed up the job search, certain strategies should be put into place. Here are some of them:

1. Be persistent. Persistence is a key ingredient when finding a job. Once you have submitted your resume, the next step is making follow up calls to know the status of your application. By being persistent, you send a clear message to the company that you really want the job and are ready to prove it.
2. Be confident. This is particularly helpful during the interview. It is a given that you should make a lasting impression. Do this by talking about your accomplishments.
3. Be prepared. Most of the time, the hiring managers ask applicants to throw in questions. Research about the company so you get some ideas as to what you should be asking.

Best Sources of Job Opportunities

4.jpgFinding a job is already a job in itself and it is not that easy. There are a lot of things to be considered and you really have to be resourceful to be successful in finding the perfect job. Normally in local areas, small companies would initially advertise job openings through the local newspapers. This way cost less rather than posting ads through employment websites or recruitment agencies. On the other hand, national newspapers provide wider benefits and choices because bigger companies are more likely to advertise employments in national newspapers. And of course we can not deny the fact the Internet offers thousands of opportunities.

Job Search Stage: Maintenance (Part 2)

When talking about maintenance as the final stage of a job search, I mean the period you spend keeping track of the progress of your job search. It also includes the time where you make follow ups, send thank you letters and repeat the entire job hunt process to increase your chance of finding employment.

Maintenance is key to understanding the job search process in a holistic manner. Remember that a job search doesn’t end when you have already sent a resume nor when you already passed a job interview. The road to a new job becomes smoother when you keep your job search machinery well-oiled through maintenance.

Job Search Stage: Maintenance (Part 1)

Category: Job Search Advice — editor @ 7:06 am

Most career sites say that there are three stages of job search: preparation, implementation and maintenance. Preparation is where you get things ready (e.g. resume, cover letter, interview skills, company research, job site visits, etc.). By the time you have prepared everything comes the next stage which is the implementation stage. When we say implementation, we talk about doing the actual job search such as sending the resumes to prospective employers and wait to get scheduled for an interview. The third and final stage is maintenance. And I think this is what most job seekers leave behind. What they don’t know is that this stage is very important to actually landing the coveted job. (to be concluded)

What Do Employers Look for in Job Candidates?

Category: Job Search Advice — editor @ 2:39 am

167-imagesscotsmancom.jpg

Job search requires that you send resume to your prospective companies so you may get scheduled for a job interview should your resume passes the screening. Aside from what can be read in a resume such as work experience, education, skills and past achievements, there are certain qualities that employers look for in job candidates. These qualities are intangible and cannot be put in writing.

Employers usually look for things that matters in the workplace. In order to pass the interview, job candidates should be able to communicate to the hiring manager that he has good communication and organizational skills, the capacity to make a productive interaction with fellow employees, the ability to work under pressure, a sense of loyalty and accountability to the company, and a forward-looking attitude. Unless you possess most or all of this, then your chance of getting hired remains slim.
